February 2005

So, I think I have settled on LiveJournal. I like the community feel. I like the moods. I don’t like the layout, but I’m a cheap ass and don’t feel like paying Six Apart for either Movable Type or LiveJournal. That may change when I get a real job and make more money (grad students are poor, parents are poor, bills make people poor), although on this fellowship I am well paid.

I like having a calendar on the site and easy buttons for HTML code (like phpBB and Bloglines), but I know enough coding to do it myself too.

Well, my dad (Poppy as Maddy affectionately calls him) is in town and we have projects planned. A new corner seat, a deck design, etc. I will update with pics as things happen.

Maddy will be 2 years 5 months old on Feb 27th. She began stuttering about a month ago?!?!? When we make her slow down and speak clearly, she can with no problem, but sometimes she gets so excited to tell us something that ittttt jjjjjjjuuussst dodododododoeesnn’t come out. We will keep an eye on it though.

We had our first nice days of the year (weather wise) this week.  Highs in the upper 70s with low humidity.  Went to Chinese new year on Saturday.  Pictures are up here

We have begun on our house projects.  Things to do include a deck, front “landing”, edging around the flower beds with stone or brick, weeding, mulching, a trash bin hider, etc to make ready for spring.

I am still testing this out, so I won’t write much today.

Well, I am getting on the blog bandwaggon…

At first I just scripted my own photo and blog site. Then I researched Gallery and a few other open source options for modular webpage design (MovableType, GeekLog, LiveJournal, and Bloglines.

I decided it was easier to use someone else’s code than reinvent the wheel. I’m a molecular biologist by trade, computer technology is just a fun hobby.

Well, my last blog was basically a way to “get the word out” about my newborn daughter (now 2 and a half). I will probably use this blog for the same thing…who knows.
