The pumpkin was no match for our nimble hands. In Texas, pumpkins do not last long. About 4 days before they wither into nothing. That is what 80 degree temps will do to jack-o-lanterns. So we typically cut up our pumpkin about 3 days before Halloween. And today was the day. The trash bags were laid down, the sleeves were rolled and the gloves were donned.
Maddy started out by picking a pattern from the web. It’s a cat…go figure. Then we scooped out the guts, perforated the pumpkin with the pattern, and started cutting. Maddy isn’t one for getting her hands dirty so we had to use latex gloves. Alisha, Maddy and I took turns poking and cutting. Maddy is pretty good at it. When we started, Texas was down 12 to 28 against Oklahoma State. Then in the second quarter, while we were cutting it up, so was Texas outscoring OSU 35 points for a 47 to 28 Texas win.
Instead of a candle this year, we decided to take the light unit from a broken styrafoam pumpkin and put it into the real pumpking. Here are the results.

Okay, so it’s been a while. It seems to be that time of year when computers are not that important because none of my other friends are posting to blogs either. Fall. The time of year when my alergies go nuts, the leaves (in states other than Texas) begin to change, the temperature dips, and did I mention allergies? I have some pictures to put up, but I was waiting till I had them all. We went to Teresa and Andrew Carr’s wedding last weekend and had a wonderful time. My camera crapped out on two fronts (batteries and picture card), so I am soliciting pictures from the peanut gallery to post. Since I wasn’t taking the pictures, I am in more than usual.
With the time of year comes thoughts of camping. We are going to Buescher this year with a whole gaggle of people on November 12th. I will certainly have pictures from that event to put up. And Halloween is just around the corner. Maddy wants to be a horse this year, but we already have a few other costumes she has wanted to be, so we will see which wins out.

For some reason a friend of mine thought it would be a good idea to scare the isht out of me. For Maddy’s birthday, she got her some dress up clothes with a trunk and matching outfits for barbie dolls. Pictures cam be found at the bottom of here: http://io.icmb.utexas.edu/brhall/gallery/Maddy3rdbirthday
Now, the clothes are great and she loves playing dress up. The problem is with one of the outfits I have presented below…my mind flashed forward 20+ years and I freaked out. While adorable and this picture will surely end up at her wedding, I need major medication before I can allow her to play dressup in this outfit in front of me. This after last weekend when I caught Maddy and her friend Trevor (4 years old) playing "Doctor" in her room after her birthday party. We had a talk about that one even though I didn’t expect it happen for another 5 years or so.
Maddy is growing up entirely too fast. Period. Has anyone created a cure for this yet? Come on people…get to work!
