April 2008

April brings the annual bluebonnet photo session. This year we found a field of prim roses (pink), bluebonnets and Firewheel Indian Blankets (yellow/orange) in front of a church near our house. I have collected all the bluebonnet pictures within the gallery in one directory for you to compare. Maddy hasn’t changed much from last year, but the new addition of Lizzy certainly adds something. Since Lizzy can’t sit up on her own, we couldn’t get pictures of just her, but did a good job getting family and sister shots. Below is my favorite, but you will likely have others.

Lizzy is moving from the unaware infant, into the interaction stage. She can hold her head up, follow you with her eyes, and even smile and coo when interacted with. As mentioned earlier, Lizzy smiles at me daily now. I have been trying to capture that smile digitally for days. This weekend, she began smiling and talking at length, so I took the opportunity to snap some pictures. Unfortunately, this new camera has a red light that assists in auto focus in low light and Lizzy learned fast that the red light was often followed by a blinding white flash. Therefore, the red light invoked fear in her and she prefers not to smile on que like her big sister. So, we had to distract her with a goofy big sister or Poppy. While I couldn’t snap a shot of her staring directly at the camera, she was more than happy to look at someone else, coo and smile. My diabolical plans worked like a charm. Now I just need to keep a camera in her face till she gets used to the red light and will smile on demand. Sometimes with Maddy this backfires though and the cheese comes out.

In other news, we took the two Madisons to the park in Round Rock and Nelly, Jason and their new baby Layla came over for dinner last night to visit. While my normal comparisons are between Maddy and Lizzy in size and I think Lizzy is so tiny, she looks like a giant infant compared to Layla who at birth was more than two pounds lighter. But Layla will be the basketball player since she is nearly as long as Lizzy.
