March 2009

Last weekend there was a power outage where my server was located and it knocked out my MySQL server.  I finally found some free moments today to bring it back up.  Sorry for the delay.

Cheers!

My blog and gallery updating has been sub par lately and I’m starting to hear about it from the peanut gallery, I mean thanks to all you faithful followers ;)

In short, an explanation: I have been dealing with an upgrade to iPhoto09 that corrupted much of my library (the management side, not the actual photos).  I use iPhoto exclusively to manage the >9500 photos (since 2006) and have been reluctant to deal with the problem until Apple released a patch.  The upgrade happened at the beginning of Februrary and I realized the library was corrupt when making the movie of Lizzy walking a few weeks later.  It was touch and go for a few weeks after that because my only known good backup of the 10GB library was at home.  Mind you, the library database is only 10GB but my actual photos exceed 53GB and are backed up in 4 remote locations.  Since my entire management system is within iPhoto, I wanted to wait till I could perform the recovery and verify it worked.  I dreaded  starting over like the plague.  I was even shocked that the library in my beloved TimeMachine backup was corrupted well before the update to iPhoto09 due to it’s linking backup style and the fact that the iPhoto library is all static links (okay, too much information I realize).

Well, needless to say, last week I updated iPhoto with a fresh patch and then recovered the library over firewire which was much easier with Mac than it would have been under Windows.

So, without further ado, I have finally updated photos from the Christmas season through this weekend.  In that time we went back to Indiana to visit relatives and were bitterly cold (0.5 degrees on the car thermometer), both girls crossed some milestones, drove through the hill country on a wine tour, Alisha and I renewed our vows (or vowels), we celebrated birthdays and attended the kite festival.

I submitted my first LOLz on Failblog.org.  We saw this while driving in one day and thought we would share.
